A full moon is the phase when the Moon is completely illuminated as seen from Earth. It happens when the Sun, Earth, and Moon line up with Earth in the middle - the Moon's entire sunlit side faces us.

Occurs about once every 29.5 days (a full lunar cycle)

 Each month's full moon often has a traditional name (e.g., "Harvest Moon," "Wolf Moon"), based on seasonal or cultural traditions.

September's full moon is called the Harvest Moon - but not because it always falls in September. It's actually defined differently from other named moons:

-It's the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox (around September 22-23), whether that lands in September or early October

Near the equinox, the moon rises only about 20-30 minutes later each night (instead of the usual ~50 minutes), so there are several nights in a row with bright moonlight soon after sunset

That extra early-evening light traditionally let farmers keep harvesting into the night - hence the name.
