Keep Your Lights Burning.

 

Luke 12:35 says:

“Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning.” 

Jesus is teaching His followers to live in a state of spiritual readiness, waiting faithfully for their Master.

1. “Let your loins be girded”

In biblical times, people commonly wore long garments. When they needed to work, travel, or respond quickly, they would gather the garment and tie it around the waist.

Spiritually, this means:

Be ready to obey God.

Do not become spiritually careless or lazy.

Be prepared to do what God asks, even when circumstances are unexpected.

It is similar to being mentally and spiritually prepared for action.

2. “Your lights burning”

A burning lamp represents watchfulness, faith, and preparedness. A person who keeps the lamp burning is not sleeping spiritually but is ready for the Master's arrival.

This connects with Jesus' teaching in Matthew 25:1–13, where the wise virgins kept their lamps ready while waiting for the bridegroom.

Luke 12:35 begins a teaching in which Jesus describes servants waiting for their master to return (Luke 12:36–40). 

Do not live as though Christ's return or God's call is something to think about later. Live faithfully today.

This includes:

Faithfulness in our daily responsibilities.

Watchfulness in our spiritual life.

Obedience to God's Word.

Readiness for whatever God may ask of us.

Perseverance even when we do not know when the Master's return will be.

So, from today itself;

“Keep your heart ready, your faith alive, and your life faithful while you wait for the Lord.”
